1. Difference between 40% of y and 20% of x is 270 whereas difference between 40% of x and 20% of y is zero. Find the sum of ‘x’ and ‘y’ ?
A. 1250
B. 1400
C. 1200
D. 1350
E. 1500
Answer: D)
Explanation:
ATQ, 40/100y – 20x/100 = 270 => 2y – x = 1350 ……….. (i)
And, 40x/100 – 20y/100 = 0 => 2x – y = 0 ………….(ii)
On solving (i) and (ii) we get,
2 * (i) + (ii) => 3y = 2700 => y = 900
=> x = 450
Therefore required sum = 900 + 450 = 1350

2. Speed of Satish is 40% of speed of Aman. Aman covers 2340 m in 18 seconds. Find in how much time Satish can cover 468 m.
A. 8 seconds
B. 9 seconds
C. 10 seconds
D. 11 seconds
E. 12 seconds
Answer: B)
Explanation:
Speed of Aman = 2340/18 = 130 m/s
Speed of Satish = 40/100 × 130 = 52 m/s
Time taken by Satish = 468/52 = 9sec

3. A retailer buy article A and markup it 20 % above its cost price. At the time of sale if he gave 10% discount instead of 20% and he earns Rs. 4.8 more. Find the cost price of the article A.
A. 100
B. 80
C. 60
D. 40
E. 50
Answer: D)
Explanation:
Let C.P of A = x
Marked price of article = 1.2x
ATQ, 1.2x × 0.9 – 1.2x × 0.8 = 4.8  => 1.2x × 0.1 = 4.8 => x = 40

4. A boatman can cover a river of 60 km length and came back at its initial point in 4.5 hrs. If speed of boat is thrice than that of the speed of stream then find the speed of boat?
A. 10
B. 30
C. 20
D. 60
E. 25
Answer: B)
Explanation:
Let, speed of stream = x
Speed of boat = 3x
ATQ,
[60/(3x + x)] + [60/(3x – x)] = 4.5
=> 60/4x + 60/2x = 4.5 => x = 10
Speed of boat = 30kmph

5. Area of a given circle is 616 m². Perimeter of a rectangle is same as perimeter of circle. Find the diagonal of the rectangle if length of rectangle is 20% more than the breadth of the rectangle.
A. 2√59
B. 2√62
C. 4√61
D. 4√15
E. 2√65
Answer: C)
Explanation:
∏r² = 616 => r = 14m
Perimeter of rectangle = Preimeter of circle
=> 2∏r = 2(l + b)
=> 2 * 22/7 * 14 = 2(1.2b + b)
=> 2.2b = 44 => b = 20
l = 24
Therefore, Diagonal = √(20² + 24²) = √976 = 4√61m

C. 224
D. 336
E. 360
Answer: D)
Explanation:
Total persons came to PVR theatre = 28/100 * 4400 = 1232
Therefore, required difference between number of male to number of female come in PVR theatre = (7 – 4)/11 * 1232 = 336
