Diplomats from 8 Asian
countries (India, China, Japan, Pakistan, Korea, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal)
meet for a “square-table” conference. The four sides of the square table are
labelled A, B, C and D. 2 diplomats can sit on each side of the table.
Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal are classified as “Junior” members of the summit and
are expected to stay under the guidance of the senior members and sit with
them. Hence, we can’t have them take both the seats of a side by themselves.
Some countries are having
hostilities: 1) India and Pakistan
2) Bhutan and Korea.
So, their diplomats sit
on the opposite sides of the table. For example: if India sits on the side A,
Pakistan sits on one of the two seats on side C.
Japan is to the immediate
right of Pakistan. There is one country between China and Bhutan and two
countries between Japan and Thailand. India is not an immediate neighbour of
either Thailand or Nepal. Moreover, China and India are not seated along the
same side.
