A) 23/143
B) 76/143
C) 63/143
D) 65/140
E) 43/143
Solutions:
1. C) 12 month’s salary = Rs.90 + Turban
Therefore 9 month’s salary = (Rs.90 + turban) * 9/12 = Rs.90 * ¾ + ¾ turban
= 135/2 + ¾ turban
Therefore Rs.135/2 + ¾
=> ¼ Turban = Rs.5/2 => Turban = 5/2 * 4 = Rs.10
2. D) Let the original fraction be x/y.
Then, ATQ, (x – 4)/(y + 1) = 1/6 => 6x – 24 = y + 1 => 6x – y = 25 …… (i)
Again, (x + 2)/(y + 1) = 1/3 => 3x + 6 = y + 1 => 3x – y = –5 …… (ii)
Subtract eq (ii) from eq (i) we get,
3x = 30 => x = 10 then y = 35
LCM of 10 and 35 = 70
3. D) Let the highest score be x.
Lowest score = x – 172
Then x + x – 172 = 40 * 50 – 38 * 48 => 2x – 172 = 2000 – 1824 = 176
=> x = (176 + 172)/2 = 174
4. B) Let the barrel contain 4 litres of mixture then Wine is 3 litres and Water is 1 litre
Let x litres mixture is taken out
=> Wine in (4 – x) litres mixture = ¾ (4 – x)
On adding x litres water, water in mixture = (4 – x) * ¼ + x = 1 – x/4 + x = (4 + 3x)/4
Therefore ¾ (4 – x) = (4 + 3x)/4 => 12 – 3x = 4 + 3x => 6x = 8 => x = 4/3
Therefore required answer = (4/3)/4 = 1/3
5. B) Let the number of book in shelf B be 100
Therefore No. of books in shelf A = 80
On transferring 25% i.e ¼ of books of shelf A to shelf A
B = 100 + 20 = 120
Again, on transferring ¼ of books of shelf B to shelf A
A = 60 + 120/4 = 90
Therefore Required Percentage = 90/180 * 100 = 50%
6. B) Let the person buy 10 articles
Total CP = Rs. (1 + 5/4) = Rs.9/4
SP of 10 articles = Rs.2/9 * 10 = Rs.20/9
Therefore Loss = Rs. (9/4 – 20/9) = Rs.(81 – 80)/36 = Rs.1/36
Now if loss is Rs.1/36, number of articles = 10
If loss is Rs.3, number of articles = 36 * 10 * 3 = 1080
7. B) CP of 120 books = Rs.(120 * 3) = Rs.360
SP of 40 at Rs.4 each = Rs.(40 * 4) = Rs.160
SP of 60 at Rs.5 each = Rs.300
SP of remaining 20 books = Rs.60
Total SP = Rs.520
Profit % = 160/360 * 100 = 44 4/9%
8. A)
9. B) If A alone can do the work in x days and B in y days then
1/x + 1/y = 1/5 …. (i)
Again 2/x + 1/3y = 1/3 ….. (ii)
By eq (ii) * 3 – eq(i) => 6/x – 1/x = 4/5 => x = 25/4 = 6 ¼ days
10. A) Let the trains meet after t hours then,
21t – 16t = 60 => t = 12 hrs
Therefore distance between A and B = (16 + 21) * 21 = 37 * 12 = 444 miles
11. D) Profit for 3 days = 6750 x 3 = 20250
Loss for 2 days = 3850 x 2= 7700
Profit in first 5 days = 20250 – 7700 = 12550
Average loss in last 2 days = 12550/2 = Rs.6275
12. C) CP= 2475 x (87.5/100) x (100/112.5) = 1925
Total profit without discount = 2475 – 1925 = Rs.550
% gain = (550/1925) x100 = 200/7 = 28(4/7) %
13. B) Area of 4 walls of a room
= 2(Length + Breadth) * Height = 2(12 + 10)4 = 176m2
Reqd cost = 176 x 12.6 = Rs.2217.6
14. B) Let total work
= LCM of 12, 24 and 30 = 120 units
Amrendra’s 1 day’s work = 5 units/day
Birendra’s 1 day’s work = 4 units/day
(A + B + D)’s 1 day’s work = 10 units/day
Devendra’s 1 day’s work {10 — (5 + 4)} = 1 unit/day
Amerendra and Birendra’s 12 days’ work = 12 x 9 = 108 units
Remaining work = 120 – 108 = 12 units
Devendra will do this work in (12 /1 =12 days)
15. C) Total number of ball pens = n(S) = 6 + 7 = 13
Reqd probability (6C2 x7C2)/ 13C4= (15x 21)/715 = 63/143
