Data Interpretation Practice Questions for IBPS RRB, IBPS Clerk, IBPS PO
Directions (1 – 5): Study the following bar graph and pie-chart carefully and answer the questions given below:
Note: The speed of the stream changes for each boat as shown in the bar graph.
1. What is the time taken by Mohit to reach his destination upstream?
a) 380 hrs
b) 370 hrs
c) 368 hrs
d) 375 hrs
e) 365 hrs
2. What is the ratio of time take by boat B3to that taken by boat B4to reach their respective destinations? (Assume that the boats travel in the same directions of as that of the stream.)
a) 13:9
b) 11:10
c) 26:15
d) 13:11
e) 12:11
3. If the speed of boat B4increases by 15% then what is the approximate time taken by Mohit to reach 756 km by boat B4? (Assume opposite direction of stream)
a) 90 hrs
b) 92 hrs
c) 87 hrs
d) 82 hrs
e) 85 hrs
4. What is the difference between the time taken by boat B1 and boat B2 to travel 300 km upstream?
a) 100 hrs
b) 101 hrs
c) 99 hrs
d) 98 hrs
e) 102 hrs
5. If the speed of boat B3 is increased by 30% and the speed of the stream decreases by 15% then what is the difference between the time taken by the boat now and that taken previously to travel 440 km? (Assume opposite direction of stream in either case)
a) 70 hrs
b) 68 hrs
c) 60 hrs
d) 55 hrs
e) 64 hrs
Directions (6 – 9): Answer the questions based on the following information:
Base Babu has recently acquired four companies, namely A, B, C and D. When the results of the companies for the year 2013-14 were placed before him, found a few interesting things about them. While the profit of C and D were the same, the sales of C were the same as those of B. Profits of A were 20% of its sales, whereas the profits of B were 30% of its sales. While the total expenses of C were three times its profit, the sales of D were two times its profit. The total expenses of C were Rs. 15 lakh and the expenses of A were 20% less than those of C. Profit are defined as the difference between sales and the total expenses.
6. Which company had the lowest sales?
a) A
b) D
c) C
d) B
e) Either 1) or 3)
7. Which company had the highest total expenses?
a) C
b) B
c) A
d) D
e) Either 2) or 3)
8. Which company earned the lowest profit?
a) C
b) D
c) A
d) B
e) Both 3) and 4)
9. Which company earned the highest profit?
a) C
b) A
c) D
d) B
e) Both 1) and 4)
Solutions:
1. A) Total distance travelled by Mohit = 1500 km
Distance covered by Boat B1 =1500×(38/100) = 570 km
Time taken by Boat B1= (570/20-14) = 285/3 = 95 hrs
Distance covered by Boat B2= (20/100)×1500 = 300 km
Time taken by Boat B2= 300/(16-14) = 150 km
Similarly, time taken by Boat B3 = (24×15)/(12-8) = 90 hrs
Time taken by Boat B4 = (18×15)/(16-10) = 45 hrs
Total time taken by Mohit = 95+150+90+45 = 380 hrs
2. C) Speed = 12+8 = 20 kmph
Speed of B4 = 16+10 = 26 kmph
Time taken by Boat B3 = 360/20
Time taken by Boat B4= 270/26
Required ratio = 18×(26/270) = 26:15
3. A) New speed of Boat B4 = 16×(115/100) = 18.4 kmph
Time taken to travel 756 km = 756/(184-10) = 756/8.4 = 90 hrs
4. A) Time taken by Boat B1 = 300/(20-14) = 300/6 = 50 hrs
Time taken by Boat = 300/(16-14) = 300/2 = 150 hrs
Required difference = 150-50=100 hrs
5. C) Speed of boat B3after 30% increase in its speed = 12×(130/100) = 15.6 kmph
Speed of stream after 15% decrease = 8×(85/100) = 6.8 kmph
Now, the time taken by Boat B3 = 440/(15.6-6.8) = 50 hours
Time taken by boat B3 previously = 440/(12-8) = 110 hrs
Before increase in time
Difference = 110 – 50 = 60 hrs
(6 – 10):
