1. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Kamal Nath appointed Congress general secretaries.
• Senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Kamal Nath were appointed Congress General Secretaries by party chief Sonia Gandhi, setting in motion the much talked about process of organisational changes ahead of the Assembly elections next year, including in Uttar Pradesh.
• While Azad, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, has been made in charge of Uttar Pradesh, Nath will look after Punjab and Haryana.

1. Indian short film 'Leeches' wins at Seoul film gala.
• Indian short film "Leeches", starring Sayani Gupta, won the Audience Choice Award at the Seoul International Women's Film Festival (SIWFF).
• "Leeches" is a film about two Hyderabadi sisters who live in the interiors of the city where a lot of orthodox practices are still prevalent.
2. Priyanka Chopra nominated for Choice TV Breakout Star in 2016 Teen Choice Awards.
• India's bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra was nominated for 2016 Teen Choice Awards.
• She got her final nomination in the category of Choice TV Breakout Star.

1. Government drafting separate bankruptcy law for financial companies
• Having overhauled the century-old bankruptcy laws for companies, the government will now bring a new insolvency law for banks and financial institutions to vest with depositors the first right over assets of a defunct entity.
• The new legislation that is in the process of being drafted will help in quick winding up of stressed banks, NBFCs and microfinance institutions while safeguarding the interest of small savers.

1. Noted Playwright and Actor Achyut Lahkar passes away
• Veteran theatre personality, playwright and doyen of Assam’s mobile theatre movement Achyut Lahkar passed away in Pathsala, Assam
• He was considered as the father of the Bhryamyman or Mobile Theatre of Assam.

1. PSBs’ loan quality to remain under pressure for next one year
• Global rating agency Moody’s Investors Service sees public sector banks’ asset quality remaining under pressure over the next 12 months.
• This would be the case as banks continue to recognize non-performing loans from some of the larger leveraged corporate groups, particularly in the steel and power sectors.

1. China, Nepal Connected by Optical Fiber for First Time
• China and Nepal have been connected with an optical fibre network via Tibet as infrastructure between the two countries is being firmed up to extend high-speed Internet services to Nepal.
• The network has ended Nepal's sole dependence on India for connecting it with global telecom service.

1. Sikkim becomes India’s first State to launch open government data portal
• Sikkim claimed to become the first state in India to have an open government data portal. Lok Sabha MP, P D Rai launched the open government data portal ‘’ and Open Government Data Platform (Sikkim).
• On the open government data portal, the data produced or commissioned by the government or government controlled entities can be freely used, reused and redistributed by anyone.
2. West Bengal government to offer rice at Rs 2 per kg to sex workers, HIV patients
• West Bengal government has decided to provide rice at Rs two per kg to sex workers and poor HIV patients in the state.
• Poor leprosy patients, deaf and dumb children in various homes will also be included in the scheme and in the first phase, about one lakh beneficiaries from across the state will be identified for the purpose.
3. Arvind Kejriwal Sets Up Committee to Look Into Matters Related To Delhi Water Bodies
• Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal constituted a high-level committee under the chairmanship of PWD Minister Satyendar Jain to look into matters related to water bodies in the national capital.
• The committee will look into matters related to water bodies in Delhi and issues related to taking necessary steps like site inspections, proper identification of water bodies for updated inventory, suggesting suitable recommendations to restore them, rain water harvesting for the benefit of water bodies along with their development and beautification plan on targeted basis for all the water bodies-owning agencies.

1. New MD of Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.
• Dr. M Beena, has been appointed as Managing Director of the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA), a statutory body of the Kerala Government.
• KINFRA aims at bringing together all the suitable resources available in the state and developing infrastructure to woo the industrial growth of the state.
• KINFRA is dedicated to catalysing industrial growth in Kerala by providing the best industry-specific-infrastructure.

1. Gujarat Island gets electricity for first time.
• Shiyal Bet, an island in Gujarat's Amreli District got electricity supply for the first time, nearly seven decades after independence.
• With electricity reaching the island through a 6-km undersea cable, every part of Gujarat is reportedly now connected to electricity.

1. Aerospace firm successfully tests solar-powered aircraft
• A test pilot successfully flew a solar-powered prototype aircraft for a company that envisions manufacturing a fleet of drones to provide aerial internet service for an estimated 4 billion people worldwide.
• The test flight by Luminati Aerospace LLC took place at a former Northrop Grumman defense plant on eastern Long Island that once made military aircraft.

• Gujarat is expected to position itself as a “window” to all foreign investors keen on investing in India. At the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2017,.
• The state government is planning to promote itself through the motif, “Gujarat: Connecting India to the world.”

1. World Day Against Child Labor is observed on June 12th
• The World Day Against Child Labour, which is held every year on June 12, is intended to foster the worldwide movement against child labour in any of its forms.
• This day brings together governments, local authorities, civil society and international, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labour problem and define the guidelines to help child labourers.

1. Saina clinches second Australian Open title
• Shuttler Saina Nehwal received a huge boost ahead of the Rio Olympics as she clinched her second Australian Open Super Series title after defeating China’s Sun Yu in a thrilling three-game final in Sydney.
• London Olympics bronze medallist Saina, who had beaten two world champions Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon (2013) and China’s Yihan Wang (2011) in the quarterfinals and semifinals, thus clinched her maiden title of the season.
2. Usain Bolt registers 2016's 2nd best 100m timing
• Usain Bolt gave an emphatic demonstration of his readiness for an Olympic three-peat by running 9.88 (1.0m/s) to win the 100m at the JN Racers Grand Prix in Kingston.
• Bolt clocked the second fastest time of the year behind Frenchman Jimmy Vicaut’s 9.86.

1. Andhra launches IT irrigation project management
• Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched IT-enabled management system for irrigation projects at Water Resources department headquarters.
• The Chief Minister launched Immersive Telepresence with Integrated Water Management Command Centre' by reviewing the progress of Polavaram irrigation project's spillway works on Godavari river.
2. Andhra Pradesh government to invest Rs.2,400 cr for tourism boost
• Andhra Pradesh government is planning to add 33 hotels, including major global and domestic brands, in the state at a total investment of Rs 2,400 crore to strengthen tourism development.
• Tourist preference patterns over the years have shown a gradual shift from traditional tourism, with more and more tourists now inclined towards additional entertainment avenues, including water sports, adventure tourism; Andhra Pradesh is also focusing on them.
