1. Satya Pal Jain appointed as Law Commission member.
• Additional Solicitor General of India and former Parliamentarian Satya Pal Jain was appointed as a part-time member of the 21st Law Commission of India.
• The appointment will be in addition to his charge as an Additional Solicitor General of India.
2. V. Vaithilingam elected as Speaker of Puducherry Assembly.
• Congress leader and former Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the 14th Puducherry legislative Assembly.
• Besides, pro-tem Speaker VP Shivakozhuthu was declared elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker.

1. Author Akhil Sharma Wins International Dublin Literary Award.
• An Indian American author Mr. Akhil Sharma has won the prestigious 2016 International DUBLIN Literary Award for his novel 'family life'.
• The Award is organised and sponsored by Dublin City Council and at €100,000 is the world’s largest prize for a single novel published in English. The winner has announced at a ceremony in Dublin’s Mansion House.
2. Two Indian-Americans Shortlisted For White House Fellows Programme.
• Two Indian-Americans have been named finalists for the prestigious White House Fellows programme that offers first-hand experience of working at the highest levels of the US federal government.
• Tina Shah, a physician from the University of Chicago and Anjali Tripathi, an astrophysics Ph.D candidate at Harvard University, has been shortlisted for the White House Fellows Programme, the White House.
3. Tata Power Solar bagged the MNRE award
• Tata Power Solar has bagged the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) award for rooftop solar power projects.
• The company has won the award in the Channel Partner/EPC contractor category at the National Excellence Awards 2016 instituted by MNRE for the first time.

1. India Post launches logo and tagline design contest for IPPB on MyGov
• The Department of Posts launched a logo and tagline design contest for the soon-to-be set up India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) on the MyGov website.
• The cabinet gave its nod to setting up of the IPPB under the Department of Posts.
2. Paytm to use Infosys Finacle for payments bank
• Paytm's payment bank will use Infosys' Finacle core banking software to provide its services, the first of such deals that Infosys has closed since the banking licences were issued last year.
• Infosys is also looking at the other winners of the licences to sell its banking software.

1. Canadian ice hockey legend Gordie Howe passes away
• Legendary Canadian ice hockey player Gordie Howe passed away at Toledo, US. He was 88.
• He was commonly known as Mr. Hockey and is considered as one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time and an ironman in many respects both on and off the ice.
• Howe was born in Floral, Saskatchewan, in March 1928.
2. Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Rajendra Dadu dies in car accident
• Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Nepanagar, Rajendra Dadu, was killed in an accident.
• The BJP legislator was coming to Bhopal to attend a party meeting at the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence ahead of the June 11 Rajya Sabha election.
3. Former Karnataka Bank Chairman Krishna Bhat passes away
• M.S. Krishna Bhat, former Chairman of Karnataka Bank , who is credited with consolidating the position of the Bank, passed away.
• He had joined the bank in 1970 and was elevated to the position of General Manager in 1989. He became the Chief General Manager of the bank in 1994 and took over as Chairman on July 12, 1995.

1. TMB profit up 6% in FY16
• For Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB), growth will be driven by micro/small enterprises, retail and trader segments and mid-corporates in a limited way.
• In 2015-16, the bank recorded a net profit growth of 6 per cent to Rs. 402.16 crore from Rs. 379.40 crore in the previous fiscal (FY15).
2. SBI, CaixaBank ink pact to fund Indo-Spanish joint ventures
• State Bank of India and Spain’s Caixa Bank have inked pact to provide loans to Indo-Spanish joint ventures and local enterprises.
• State Bank of India (SBI) and Caixa Bank have signed a memorandum of agreement to enhance business synergies.
3. TVS Automobile hits the start-up lane with Rs. 75-cr deals
• TVS Automobile Solutions, part of the $6-billion TVS Group, will invest in three start-ups that make the auto aftermarket business simpler.
• The plan also marks the Chennai-based leading aftermarket player’s big leap into digital technology space.

1. WHO declares Liberia free of active Ebola virus transmission
• The WHO has declared that Liberia has reached the end of active Ebola virus transmission.
• This is fourth such declaration from one of the West African countries at the epicenter of the world’s worst outbreak of the disease.
• The declaration means it has been 42 days since the last confirmed patient tested negative for a second time for the disease.

1. Maharashtra to observe 21st of every month as Yoga Day
• The Maharashtra government has decided to celebrate the 21st day of every month as Yoga day across all schools, colleges and universities in the state.
• It has also been decided that 21st of every month will be celebrated as Yoga day across all schools, colleges and universities of Maharashtra.
2. Centre announces new Print Media Advertisement policy
• Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has framed a New Print Media Advertisement Policy for Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity (DAVP) with the objective to promote transparency and accountability in issuing of advertisements in print media.
• The policy focuses on streamlining release of Government advertisements and to also promote equity and fairness among various categories of newspapers/periodicals.
3. UP has a village named ' Nagar'
• Uttar Pradesh's Muzzafarnagar district has a village called ' Nagar', which was originally named Shiv Nagar.
• In 2011, Indian e-commerce company Snapdeal installed 15 hand pumps in the village so that the villagers need not walk long distances to fetch water.
• To express their gratitude, the villagers voted to name their village after Snapdeal.
4. Venkaiah Naidu launches ‘Swachh Map’ app of Rajkot civic body
• Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu launched a 'Swachh Map' mobile application of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) that will enable residents to register complaints of sanitation by sending photos using it.
• The application is designed and developed by US-based multinational company 'Intel' without taking any money. Residents can send a photo of a dirty place or area to register their complaints to civic officials through the app and the complaints would be addressed within 24 hours.

1. Pedro Pablo Kuczynski wins Peru's Presidential Election.
• Peruvian economist Pedro Pablo Kuczynski defeated his rival Keiko Fujimori with a thin margin to become Peru’s next President.
• The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) announced that the Peruvian political organization Peruanos Por el Kambio received the most votes representing 50.12% of valid votes.

1. Green Port initiatives at Cochin
• The World Environment Day was celebrated in Cochin Port Trust with various programmes including planting of saplings, awareness class on Environment Protection Act and Rules etc.
• Kerala State conducted the awareness class for employees. Cochin Port Trust also proposes planting of 500 saplings in the port area and office premises during this monsoon season.

1. India, Japan and US begin Malabar Exercise near South China Sea
• India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and growing relations among India, US and Japan, IN ships Satpura, Sahyadri, Shakti and Kirch are participating in the 20th edition of MALABAR-16 Exercise near to the South China Sea.
• The scope of MALABAR-16 includes professional interactions in harbour and a diverse range of activities at sea, including complex surface, sub-surface and air operations.
2. Four New Elements Added to Periodic Table
• The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) has announced the names proposed for the new elements, whose discovery helped complete the seventh row of the Periodic Table.
• They are Nihonium (Nh), Moscovium (Mc), Tennessine (Ts), and Oganesson (Og).
• All of the elements are man-made, created in labs by nuclear researchers. Those researchers are from Japan, Russia and the United States.

1. IM Visakh becomes first Indian to win Mayor's chess
• International Master Visakh N R of Tamil Nadu broke a nine-year jinx to lead an Indian sweep in the 9th Mumbai Mayor International Open Chess Tournament 2016.
• The 17-year-old International Master drew his final round match with fellow-Indian Diptayan Ghosh.

1. AP Govt inks deal with NRDC to strengthen agribusiness, food processing sector
• National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the AP Food Processing Society of Andhra Pradesh Government to establish Smart Agribusiness Platform Networks of Andhra Pradesh (SAPNAP).
• These networks will strengthen the agribusiness and food processing sector by focusing on creation of enabling ecosystem for accelerated growth of agribusiness by involving all the stakeholders.

1. India becomes third largest oil consumer.
• According to BP Statistical Review of World Energy, India has surpassed Japan to become the world's third ¬largest oil consumer, with its oil demand galloping 8.1 percent in 2015.
• With demand of 4.1 million barrels per day, India is the third ¬largest consumer behind US (19.39 million bpd) and China (11.96million bpd). India accounted for 4.5 percent of world oil consumption in 2015.
2. Pakistan tops in 2016 Malware Infection Index.
• Pakistan has topped in the list of 19 countries figuring in the 2016 Malware Infection Index (MII) in the Asia-Pacific region.
• The index for the Asia-Pacific region was released by technology giant Microsoft in which India was placed at 8th position.
3. Forbes releases 2016 World’s 100 Highest-Paid Athletes list.
• The list has been topped by soccer icon Cristiano Ronaldo with earnings of 88 million US dollars.
• Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James landed at No. 3 with earnings of $77.2 million, followed by tennis player Roger Federer with $67.8 million, and OKC’s Kevin Durant with $56.2 million.
4. 65th edition of BP Statistical Review shows world shifting to lower-carbon fuels
• The review provides high-quality objective and globally consistent data on world energy markets, while the energy outlook makes projections to 2035.
• It revealed that in 2015 there were significant long-term trends in both the global demand and supply of energy.
• As the Growth in global primary energy consumption remained low in 2015 and the fuel mix of energy sources shifted towards lower-carbon fuels.
